Carpentry with Fluō (Grades K - 1)

`

Grades: Kindergarten to 2nd

Description

Students build a real, working remote control sailboat from the keel up, working in teams with marine-grade okume plywood, epoxy, and hand tools to learn the same techniques used by professional boat builders: measuring, cutting, sanding, and assembly. Every session is hands-on, and the boat will fly an Alpha flag on its sail.

The program ends with a sailing day at the Central Park Conservatory Water, the historic model boat pond on the east side. A New York tradition since the 1870s. After the sail, we frame the boat and install it on the sixth floor of Alpha as a permanent memory of the students who built it together and were part of the first cohort of Alpha New York students.
