Duration: Start: January 18, 2025 End: June 28, 2025
Program Overview: This program targets underserved, minority elementary, middle, and high
school students and endeavors to increase student interest and motivation to pursue science,
technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) careers. It is designed to increase awareness
of STEAM careers and the need to participate in STEAM academic subjects in school to prepare
for these careers. The program consists of STEAM-related coursework and field trips generally
held on the third and fourth Saturdays of each month.
Each third Saturday of the month, classes are held at the California State University-Dominguez
Hills (CSUDH) Campus, where academic instructors and professionals employed in a STEAM
industry present STEAM subject matter between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. Each fourth Saturday,
with minor exceptions, students are taken on a field trip, where they are given the opportunity to
observe and participate in real-world STEAM applications of classroom instruction and to meet
professionals employed in STEAM fields as role models. Class curriculum for 2024 is organized
and presented in specific STEAM discipline instructional blocks as follows:
• Human Anatomy and Medical Disciplines
• Regenerative Agriculture
• Semi-Conductors
• Mathematics
• Architectural Engineering
• Electrical Engineering/Robotics
Some curriculum instructional blocks generally may be the same from year to year; however,
class instruction and lesson plans will vary to address different STEAM aspects of the subject.
Field trips will also change from year to year, subject to venue availability.
Target Population/Reach: The primary target population of the program is underserved and
minority boys and girls (grades 4-12).
Program Length: The program is conducted over two consecutive Saturdays (third and fourth)
each month for 6 months. Classroom sessions held on the third Saturday nominally are 6 hours
long. Field trips related to the previous classroom subjects are conducted on each fourth Saturday
