Location: Parlin Memorial Library, Everett, MA

Job Type: Internship (Part-time)


Reports To: Head of Circulation



Job Overview:

The Parlin Memorial Library is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Library Intern to assist with a variety of library services and programs. This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in the daily operations of a public library, focusing on customer service, event coordination, and resource management. This is an ideal opportunity for students or individuals looking to explore careers in library sciences, education, or public service.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Customer Service & Patron Assistance:
  • Assist library patrons with locating books, using computers, and navigating library resources.
  • Answer general questions regarding library policies, programs, and services.
  • Provide support at the circulation desk, checking in/out books, DVDs, and other materials.
  • Program Assistance:
  • Help plan, organize, and execute library programs and events (e.g., storytime for children, adult literacy classes, workshops, book clubs).
  • Set up spaces for programs and assist with promotion (e.g., creating flyers, and social media posts).
  • Engage with patrons during programs, ensuring they are informed and comfortable.


  • Research & Archival Work:
  • Assist in the organization, cataloging, and preservation of library collections.
  • Help with the digitization of materials or other projects related to the library’s archive.


  • Technology & Social Media:
  • Assist in maintaining the library's website, catalog system, or social media channels.
  • Help patrons with digital literacy issues (e.g., using library computers, downloading e-books, or navigating online resources).


  • Administrative Support:
  • Help with organizing and maintaining library materials and workspaces.
  • Support staff with clerical duties such as filing, data entry, and inventory.
  • Participate in library meetings and contribute ideas for improving library services.


Qualifications:


  • Education: Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a high school or college program (preferred focus areas: Library Science, Education, Communication, or related fields).


  • Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Comfortable working with a wide range of people, including children, adults, and senior citizens.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, internet research, and social media familiarity).
  • Interest in libraries, books, and community service.


  • Additional Requirements:
  • Must be at least 16 years old (if high school student).
  • Ability to commit to a consistent internship schedule
  • Previous experience in customer service, libraries, or community organizations is a plus but not required.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using library management software
  • Experience working with children, seniors, or in educational settings.
  • Social media or content creation experience.

We will meet from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM every Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, & Fri starting on 7/1/2025 and ending on 8/30/2025

We will not meet on the following dates: 7/4/2025
