Everett Housing Production Plan Internship Proposal

Summary of the Everett Housing Production Plan: The Everett Housing Production Plan (HPP) is a community and data-driven process to plan for the future of housing in Everett. The plan will provide information about the types of homes needed in Everett, how to support residents with their housing goals and challenges, and local policies for the City to consider. A special focus of this plan is to prevent displacement by ensuring Everett residents’ needs are met so they do not need to look elsewhere for housing. The City has hired the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) to provide technical assistance to complete the HPP. Together, the City, MAPC, an Advisory Committee, and community partners will work to set the vision and direction of housing policy in Everett for the next five years.

Suggested Intern Tasks and Activities:

The following are tasks and activities that are anticipated for the internship program. These items may be updated or change.

Task 1: Work with MAPC and Everett Planning Department to create an art-based project to build awareness about the Housing Production Plan (HPP).

·        Consider creating a cookbook themed recipe book that describes the plan policy recommendations as “ingredients” to meeting housing need in Everett – a more accessible version of the HPP

·        Design Instagram posts, flyer, and other context, using quotes from the engagement process

·         The internship participants will receive an orientation to the Housing Production Plan with MAPC Advisory Committee members, and community-based organizations (CBO) who took part in the planning process.

Task 2: Lead follow-up with CBOs and community members who participated in engagement.

·        Review engagement notes and identify questions or challenges

·        Review City resources identified in the plan and help CBOs determine how to more equitably distribute these resources to their networks Gather community input for the creative communication about the HPP and discuss ideas for CBOs and community members’ continued involvement in implementation of the plan

·        Develop and share out an Everett Housing Resource Toolkit based on the plan and research

Task 3: Plan and host a public event to celebrate the completion of the HPP.

·        Hold an event to share the completed creative communication materials and educate Everett youth and other community members about the HPP, housing policy, and how to advocate for implementation of the plan once approved

·        Secure commitment from community members and CBOs on how they can support the implementation of the HPP
