Youth staff members at summer food distribution sites will set up promotional materials (banners & lawn signs), monitor food temperatures to ensure proper food safety, distribute meals, track number of meals served, engage with participants, and ensure that children remain at the site to eat their meals (mandated by the USDA to ensure that youth up to age 18 are benefiting from the summer food program).
Youth staff members will also assist at our free food markets in Malden and Medford that serve diverse individuals of all ages by providing supplemental and emergency food support. Youth will stock shelves, register and track shoppers’ appointments, and provide other support as needed.
Individuals will work Monday through Friday for 4 hours per day. Hours will primarily be from 10am-2pm
Professional development and skill growth for youth staff will include training and certification for Serve Safe Allergens and Serve Safe Food Handling; CPR, choking and first aid training; Supporting Wellness at Pantries (SWAP) training, and Summer Food Service Program training (SFSP).
