Description

Code for Life USA is committed to equipping young people with the life and tech skills they will need to thrive in life. We provide a fun, safe, and growing environment for students to thrive in. The game development class teaches students the fundamentals of game development: how to design systems, how to build the assets like code and visuals needed to bring them to life, and how to refine them through repeated feedback from testing and presenting their games. Throughout the course, students will build hands-on projects in which they will learn how to develop their own video games, from building the code of the game, deploying to test the game through feedback, to publishing it online for other people to play. By the end of the course, students will have practical experience and an understanding for how to approach designing systems, learn to use industry grade software such as Unity3D to build games, and be able to publish their projects online to have a portfolio of their own for anyone to see.

Learning Experience

·       Code for Life USA utilizes a project-based curriculum where students learn by doing.

·       Students will design concepts for games, organize and iterate on their concepts through group feedback and build a vertical slice of their game.

·       The Game Development course focuses on developing the students' design, planning, and problem-solving skills to be able to build the games they conceptualize.

·       The curriculum emphasizes documenting the process of the course’s projects so students build a portfolio as they learn.

·       Every session student will learn to use industry standard tools such as Unity 3D and Microsoft Visual Studio to build their projects.

·       Code for Life instructors on teaching core skills in game development, from the hardware side of things such as managing game performance, to the design aspects, such as conveying intentionality to players
