Physical agility is an important part of the academy. Prepare your explorer with
push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, and leg and arm rolls. Encourage your
Explorer to run each day. This will make it easy on everyone during Physical
Training each morning. Explorers will gain knowledge in the areas of Crime
Scene investigation, Active Shooter simulation, Traffic Felony Stops, Domestic
Crisis Intervention, Crime Prevention, Arrest and Search Techniques, Drill and
Ceremony and First Aide.
Attending students will be bussed to and from camp. Physicals are required for participation. Please have the physical form completed by your student's medical provider before uploading it during the camp sign up process. Physical forms may also be emailed to dpdexplorers@detroitmi.gov.

Students will be bussed to and from camp. On Sunday, July 9, 2023, Explorers will depart from the 12th Precinct located at 1441 W. 7 Mile Rd at 2:00 PM. Explorers should arrive no later than 1:00 PM, to load their luggage on to the bus and to check in with advisors. Please make sure that your Explorer is fed prior to arrival, no food or drinks will be allowed on the bus.
The Camp Academy will be held at Northwood University in Midland, MI, from Sunday, July 9, 2023 through Saturday, July 15, 2023. Explorers will not have access to phones. If there is an emergency and you need to contact your child, call NPO Berry at 313-618-0793 or NPO Robinson at 313-600-3354.
ITEMS NOT ALLOWED AT CAMP INCLUDES:
Money, perfume, cologne, jewelry, food, computers, radios, cell phones, or any other valuables.
No skirts, dresses, spandex, short-shorts, or bikinis will be permitted during the Camp Academy. All hairstyles will render a neat appearance. No scarfs or headbands will be worn during camp. Every Explorer must have a black leather belt and gym shoes.
Don't forget to go over you check list before departing. Card and board games are permitted.
The Explorers will return to the 12th Precinct on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 1:00 PM. Please be on time to pick up your student.
