Description: Contact: angie@harmony-project.org

Rooms 108, 109 & 109-1/2

Beginning Mariachi students learn traditional Mexican music, in addition to some other modern arrangements, that are appropriate to the skill level of the students. We concentrate on correct instrumental techniques, music reading skills, memorization, ear training, and stage presence. Instrumentation for this ensemble includes, but is not limited to, violin, guitarron, vihuela, trumpet, acoustic guitar, and voice. All Mariachi students will be expected to sing.

In this one day a week class, beginners are enrolled in a 1-hour group class on their instrument and an optional immersive Mariachi ensemble session with our Intermediate students. Students may choose one of the following instruments:

Violin: The mariachi violin class will focus on creating a strong technical foundation that will allow for performances at a high level. The class will focus on theory, playing the mariachi style, vocalizing and performing.

Armonía: The armonía class will focus on learning the basics of guitar, vihuela and guitarron and various rhythms that coincide with the various genres in mariachi such as the Son Jalisciense, Huapango, Bolero and Ranchera.

Trumpet: In the Mariachi Trumpet class, students will learn core skills on the trumpet—easy, beautiful tone production, basic music theory with a focus on music literacy, and repertoire with a focus on Mariachi music.

AND THEN FOR THE Intermediate Ensemble (our returning students or those with experience)
