FHC/KIPP

  • Work Hours:
  • Wednesday, or Thursday, or Friday 4 pm -6 pm at KIPP Legacy High. Spring Break Edna Martin Christian Center 8:30 am-4 pm
  • Pay Rate is $8/hour.
  • Spring Break hours: 20 hours per week
  • All professional development and work is done after school 
  • Have to attend either Wed, Thu, or Fri 4-6 pm, Spring Break 8:30-4 pm

FHC’s Youth-Adult Partnership program seeks youth and adults working together to identify community issues and needs, design, and research possible solutions using the scientific method and civic engagement, and implement those solutions based on the determined results. Spring Break hours consist of 4 paid hours and three professional development hours.


Science, Engineering, Technology & Math

  • Be willing to collaborate with teachers, facilitators, and professional researchers in the formulation of research questions, data collection, analysis, and presentations
  • Participate in reviewing instructions to maintain the FHC or Edna Martin Christian Center (EMCC) farm plot sizing at approximately one acre, including a nearby orchard and the garden plots at Unity Park, providing input to improve the tasks and generate new ideas for safety and efficiency. 
  • Engage in discussions and planning to implement the planting phase and perform maintenance operations such as weeding, watering, harvesting, repairs, etc.
  • Discuss past harvesting experience and plan on beginning the harvest phase, managing farm inventory, and distributing that inventory to farmers' markets, community members, and businesses.
  • Take part in training to assist teachers and scientists during summer camp activity, learn the garden activities and lead in place of teachers, and suggest new activities

Art & Community Engagement

  • Be ready to take part in Neighborhood association meetings to address community concerns
  • Work with adults to be part of public awareness and collective actions to reach a common goal
  • Engage in discussions on how to beautify the community by working at community gardens & nearby parks
  • Be part of the planning to assist seniors and residents in starting their garden and garden maintenance 
  • The youth-adult Partnership program involves community engagements outside of the FHC campus and travel to community events as well as College/University tours 
  • Be willing to engage in community issue identification and take part in developing the solution


Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Participate in learning activities with a positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Honestly share thoughts and ideas while being respectful to all partners and demonstrating a willingness to be part of building a coalition 
  • Practice good work habits: showing up on time as scheduled, following directions, and communicating with supervisors and other students  
  • Practice RESPECT - Defensiveness and disrespect during real talk or during constructive feedback can lead to the loss of a job. Fighting, arguing, and calling each other names is not tolerated.
