Description

Project LEAYD (Leaders in Enrichment of Adolescent and Youth Development) 

Project LEAYD is an afterschool program that promotes positive, healthy lifestyles and encourages responsible decision-making among community at-risk youth ages 11 to 18.

 

Students have the opportunity to select the programmatic tracks that best suits their goals in life. 

College Preparation - This program helps students with college applications, essays, SAT Prep, and entrance interviews.

Mentoring - Youth are paired with professional mentors from a wide range of career fields. The support of a mentor can be life-changing and has been for many of the most successful people in the world. This program meets twice a month.

Tutoring - Students receive help with homework and math and language arts in the one-on-one, 45-minute sessions with tutors.

Financial Literacy - Students will learn how to be strategic in creating their financial future. Participants will open a bank account, and learn about investing, saving, and how to achieve their lifelong financial goals.

Google & Facebook IT Career Certificates - This is a self-paced online program to earn a certificate for an entry-level position in Internet Technology. After completing the program students will have a certificate that gives them an opportunity to earn $50,000-$60,000 a year.

Workforce Readiness - Eligible students may apply to the workforce readiness program which will allow them to earn $15 an hour while participating in Project LEAYD. Students will also receive internship hours with GCLA, resume assistance, interview practice, and a recommendation letter. The goal is to prepare students to able to work in an office environment.


Project LEAYD is a key component of GCLA’s mission to guide residents in South LA from the cradle to college, careers, and beyond. This initiative has been a part of LA County's Ready-to-Rise Program, which is supported by funds diverted from the juvenile justice system to youth development.''
