Join us for an exciting initiative promoting social and emotional wellness in Tampa! In partnership with Shear Excellence & Power Circle Barbershops, we’re launching a year-long program starting November 2024, with sessions held every 3rd Wednesday from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. 🌟

About the Program:

Barbershops have always been a cornerstone in African American communities, serving as places for connection and conversation. Our Barbershop Conversations taps into this tradition, turning these familiar settings into powerful platforms for mental wellness discussions. By building on the trust within these spaces, we promote open dialogue about mental health in a relaxed, comfortable environment. Impowered Minds is committed to promoting men's mental health, focusing on the unique challenges they face. Our mission is to build resilience, provide resources, and create a supportive network for men navigating the complexities of life.

We aim to create spaces for open discussions that foster unity and collective growth. Through collaborations with local barbershops, businesses, schools, and the community, we ensure these conversations are culturally relevant and seamlessly integrated into everyday life.

• Sonni Pitts (Child Welfare Case Management, Youth Mental Health First Aid, TBRI)
• Tocara Jackson (Program Management, Trauma-Informed Care, Youth Development)

• Resource Sheet 📄: Monthly resource sheets providing assistance

• Monthly Themes 📅: Barbers lead discussions on patience, empathy, self-awareness, and more.

• Engaging Meetings 🍽️: Enjoy meals from local restaurants while having impactful discussions.

• Free Haircuts ✂️: Students from Tampa Bay Tech and Safe and Sound receive two haircuts per month, reinforcing the monthly theme all in the 33610 zip code.

• Entrepreneurship & Purpose 💼: Barbers will share their entrepreneurial journey, inspiring participants.

• Barbers’ Role 🗣️: Barbers guide meaningful conversations and distribute resource sheets emphasizing mental health and well-being.

• Support The Community: Island Crew, Safe and Sound Hillsborough, Cup Cake City, New East Tampa Academy, Potter Elementary,

We’ve partnered with Tampa Bay Tech in the 33610 zip code to offer 70 students training on the business side of barbering. Additionally, Island Crew, a local business will provide meals during sessions. 🌍 We will reinvest in local businesses, ensuring resources stay within the community for lasting growth. By focusing on the 33610,33605, 33619 zip codes, we’re committed to supporting local businesses and uplifting the community at large. We aim to reinvest in businesses within the target area, ensuring lasting impact and growth.
