The Youth Mental Health First Aid Certificate program is designed to empower participants with the skills and confidence to support young people experiencing mental health challenges. This comprehensive training provides the tools needed to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders in youth. Participants will become empowered to:


  • Assess for Danger of Suicide or Harm: Recognize warning signs and evaluate the immediate risk to ensure safety and take appropriate action.
  • Refer to Emergency and Non-Emergency Services: Learn how to navigate the mental health system and connect individuals with the appropriate resources for urgent and ongoing support.
  • Listen Non-Judgmentally: Develop active listening skills to provide a supportive and understanding environment for young people to express their feelings and concerns.
  • Provide Reassurance and Information: Offer accurate information and calming reassurance to help youth feel supported and understood during times of distress.
  • Encourage and Connect with Professional Help: Facilitate access to professional mental health services to ensure comprehensive care and treatment.
  • Encourage Self-Help and Other Support Strategies: Promote positive coping strategies and support systems to empower young people in managing their mental health.
