Description
Independent Study 2026 Fall: 12 Views of Los Angeles
Inspired by the two exhibitions at Getty, Instante/revelación: Moments in Mexican Photography and Every Minute is History: Five Views of Los Angeles, twelve young artists (participants) from Las Fotos Project will participate in a themed Independent Study program from August 2026 to April 2027.
The program will consist of a 13-week course led by a teaching artist, mentorship by an industry professional and practicing artist, field trips at Getty, curated guest speaker lectures and culmination of a group exhibition with accompanied printed materials, and most importantly a crafted portfolio that sets the participant for success in open calls and other opportunities including the Las Fotos Project’s solo exhibition residency. Through this program, participants will immerse themselves in the legacies of Mexico's photographic history and contemporary Chicanx artists, and create a body of work that speaks to their unique view of Los Angeles.
This advanced course will integrate studio practice, critical analysis, and practical applications, to strengthen participants’ portfolio development, visual literacy, self-direction, time management, and emotional awareness and wellbeing.

- Weekly classes on Saturdays (1:30PM - 4:00PM)
- Mid-week check-in on Thursdays (4:30PM - 6:00PM) with the first virtual check in on Thursday, September 3rd
- Last day of class: Saturday, November 21st
