Description

💥 Take to the skies and master the future of flight! Join our RECF Aerial Drone Competition Team at the Mesquite Works STEAM Center and turn your interest in technology into high-flying success. Whether you are a middle schooler ready to build a new skill or a high school student looking to boost your engineering and coding portfolio, this team is your launchpad.

We practice every Tuesday from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM right here in Mesquite. If your school lets out a bit later, don't worry—coming late to practice is completely fine! Just show up as soon as you can and jump straight into the action with your team.

🤖 Precision Flight with the CoDrone EDU

We will be training exclusively with the CoDrone EDU, an advanced, competition-grade drone built specifically for education. Outfitted with optical flow sensors, lasers, and a color sensor, it is the perfect machine to learn both professional piloting and high-level programming.

Here is what a typical, fast-paced practice looks like:

🎮 Hands-on Pilot Training & Obstacle Courses

  • Master the Sticks: Take control of the CoDrone EDU and learn precision maneuvering, speed drifts, and tactical flight paths.
  • Conquer the Field: Navigate through 3D obstacle courses featuring hoops, gates, and specialized field elements to ace the Piloting Skills Mission.

💻 Autonomous Coding & Flight Strategies

  • Program the Future: Learn to write real-world code (Python or block-based) to make your drone fly completely on its own.
  • Crack the Code: Program sensory adjustments, automated flips, and precise landing routes to dominate the Autonomous Flight Mission.

🤝 Strategic Alliance & Teamwork

  • Fly Together: Team up with your peers to build communication strategies, as the Teamwork Mission pairs you with an alliance partner to maximize scores under a 90-second clock.
  • Build Your Crew: Rotate roles between Pilot, Visual Observer, and Programmer so you learn every angle of a professional drone crew.

📝 The Engineering Notebook & Judge Prep

  • Document the Journey: Track your team's designs, flight logs, and coding iterations just like real aerospace engineers.
  • Pitch the Judges: Practice interview skills for the Communications Mission to confidently showcase your team's hard work to industry professionals.

No prior experience is necessary—just bring your curiosity, your drive to compete, and your team spirit. Let’s fly!
