Description

Drone Dynamics: Virtual Design to Real Flight

Discover the physics and engineering of flight in the Whitebox Learning Drone Activity for 6th–12th graders. Hosted on Thursdays at 2:00 PM at the Mesquite Works STEAM Center, this hands-on STEM class teaches students to virtually design, simulate, and physically build a quadcopters.

Class Highlights:

  • Virtual Prototyping: Students use the cloud-based Whitebox Learning platform to create 3D drone models. They can simulate and analyze their designs in a virtual environment, testing for aerodynamics, stability, and Newton's laws of motion before building.
  • Real-World Construction: After perfecting their virtual quadcopters, students move to the physical build phase, bringing their engineering designs to life.
  • Virtual Competitions: Put designs to the test in simulated virtual races against peers to see which drone is the fastest and most efficient.
  • Core STEM Skills: Students explore the four forces of flight, power and energy, and basic coding while gaining insights into modern drone technology and emerging aviation careers.
