Description
New Haven Counts provides academic tutoring, homework support, mentorship, and athletic enrichment as part of the New Haven After School Initiative.
Students participate in a safe, structured, and engaging after-school environment designed to strengthen academic skills, build confidence, promote physical activity, and develop positive relationships with caring adults and mentors.
Academic Support: Trained tutors provide homework support and supplementary math instruction to help students strengthen foundational skills, problem-solving abilities, and confidence in mathematics.
Sports & Enrichment: Students participate in organized sports, games, and enrichment activities that promote teamwork, leadership, communication, physical fitness, and healthy competition.
Cascading Mentorship: Students build relationships with high school, college, and community mentors who serve as positive role models and support their academic and personal growth.
Volunteers and staff should come prepared to work directly with students, collaborate with the program team, and help create a positive, welcoming, and encouraging environment. Comfortable clothing and athletic shoes are recommended for anyone supporting sports or physical activities.
Our goal is simple: help every student leave the program stronger academically, socially, and personally than when they arrived.
Additional information: We are an approved provider for New Haven Promise community service hours.
