BUILDLab - Afterschool Coding & Robotics Program

`

Grades: 2nd to 8th

Description

BUILDLab is a free 10-week after-school program created by Newburgh Creates in partnership with OpenHub Project for students in grades 4–8 who want to explore the exciting world of robotics and coding. Each week, students gain hands-on experience with both digital and physical tools—starting with Scratch programming, then moving into Python and robotics.

Through guided lessons and team-based challenges, participants will:

  • Learn to Code using Scratch and Python, building a strong foundation in programming.
  • Build & Program Robots with sensors, motion, and logic that bring ideas to life.
  • Develop Teamwork & Problem-Solving Skills by working with peers on creative projects.
  • Showcase Their Work in a final celebration where families are invited to see what students have accomplished.

What to Expect

  • Classes meet every Wednesday from 4:30–6:00 PM for 10 weeks.
  • No prior experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to learn.
  • All materials and equipment are provided. Students only need to bring their enthusiasm!
  • The program concludes with a student showcase, where projects are presented to family and friends.

BUILDLab blends fun, creativity, and STEAM learning in a supportive environment. By the end of the program, students will not only understand the basics of coding and robotics but also gain confidence, collaboration skills, and a sense of accomplishment.

Thanks to the Community Foundation of Orange & Sullivan's Fund for Women and Children, this program is completely free for all participants.
