About ProjectArt

ProjectArt’s free classes run from September - May. Materials are provided for all students ages 4-18. Local, professional artists teach classes aligned with the National Arts Education Association standards and are informed by the teaching artist's personal artistic practice. ProjectArt classes are fun, imaginative and cultivate a love of learning.

Enrollment is ongoing throughout the year. Registration is required in advance, and space is limited.

Stitching and Weaving

This is a 6 week project starting the week of Jan 6th through Feb 10th.

In this unit, students will explore new methods for self-expression via the timeless arts of stitching and weaving. We will begin by creating simple weavings using paper, and will build our skill set to include embroidery, radial weaving, and multiple stitching styles, culminating in a final project of a hand-sewn felt puppet. Students will develop their fine-motor skills, patience, and sense of pride in themselves as artists as they take on a new and somewhat challenging media that produces satisfying results. We will learn to make intentional choices as artists with our colors, stitch styles, textures, and shapes, using our thoughtful selections to express our feelings and ideas, tell stories, and create meaning.
