About ProjectArt

ProjectArt offers free art classes for students ages 4-18 throughout the school year, from September to May. Local, professional artists teach classes aligned with the National Arts Education Association standards and are informed by the teaching artist's personal artistic practice. ProjectArt classes are fun, imaginative, and cultivate a love of learning.

Materials are provided for all students.

Enrollment is ongoing throughout the year.

Current Class Project: Trying a New Style

Trying a New Style is a three week project going from the week of November 18th through December 15th.

This project takes the foundations of portraiture, mixed media, and new techniques and merges them with art history. Students will explore the styles of influential artists (international and Detroit based) while learning about the significance of their work. Students will emulate the styles of Basquiat, Hilma Af Klimpt, and Phillip Simpson. For the portrait lessons, students will pair off and try to create a portrait of their partner using the style/techniques of the artist that week.
