About the Teaching Artist
Santiague Depres

“ Art is a Practice, we must continually practice patience and grace for ourselves and our art. With Practice we will create Masterpieces yet there is no such thing as perfection.” -Santiague Depres
Santiague is a visual artist originally from the vibrant Caribbean island of Ayiti. Born of the arts, she is a lifelong artist herself. Graduating from the prestigious Design and Architecture Senior High in the MIA. She pursued her major in anthropology, accompanied by a minor in psychology, crowned with a certificate in African Diaspora Studies from MIA finest Florida International University. With over two decades of experience as an early childhood educator and practicing community artist, Santiague has maintained her insatiable appetite for both teaching and learning. She hopes to pass on a legacy of scholarship and community engagement through the arts onto her own three gifted and imaginative children who by all means are the pillars of her ventures in art education. Works range from garment design and construction, mural management; installation, author, poet, storyboard; script layout, to photography; filmed performance dance.
Her latest body of work entitled Dark Maternal Matters, a series dedicated to maternal anxiety in relation to our deep reverence yet historic mistrust of our feminine bodies.
A Teaching Artist at the Perez Art Museum Miami, for the past 5years (one of her most honored adventures to date), Santiague has served and learned from Miami's eclectic community by engaging students, educators, parents and visitors of various ages and abilities in conversations led by their very own inquisitions through current & intriguing social concepts. She also accepts contracts from various art institutions throughout MIA beyond: Arts 4 Learning Miami, (A4L), Art Studio Miami (ASM), MOCA, MoCCAD and Artserve Ft. Lauderdale
