“Don’t let fear hinder you from doing anything. You are capable of many things. Be open to exploring, learning and don’t be too hard on yourself.” -Nicole Salgar
Nicole Salgar is an accomplished muralist and multi-media visual artist from Miami, FL who spent over 14 years of her life studying and working in NYC. Nicole worked as a designer in the fashion industry for over 7 years and now works primarily as a painter, who installs large-scale murals on local buildings across the United States.
The forms and subjects she creates are intending to invite their viewers to become co-authors and witnesses. In an effort to create new and unpredictable cycles of thought and association with her audience, Nicole's work provides an opportunity to experiment with, as well as challenge one’s perceptions. The perspectives and assumptions, which arise in the presence of her ambiguous themes and motifs, is where the true value of art reveals itself to Nicole. The invitation she wants to extend, is one where the viewer can dive deeper and connect with their own ideas of the work. Each project often consists of multiple pieces, often in a range of different media, and grouped around specific themes. During the research and production phase, new areas of interest arise and lead to the next body of work. The series she has been working on now, for example, explores how human beings interact with nature, parallel universes, and how they all affect one other. Nicole finds that experimentation is the key to creation and without it, nothing truly effective has the chance to reveal itself.
