Family Art Day: From Scraps to Self — Recycled Self-Portraits

`

Ages: 4 to 100

Description

In this collaborative workshop, we’ll explore how everyday discarded materials—cardboard, bottle caps, textiles, and other odds and ends—can be transformed through imagination and shared creativity. Rather than crafting alone, we’ll work together to build a collective “library” of facial features: dozens of unique eyes, ears, noses, and other elements made from recycled materials.

When it’s time to create your own self-portrait, you’ll select from this shared pool of parts to assemble a face that reflects you. Along the way, we’ll play with the idea that nothing is truly finished, broken, or without value—including ourselves. Through upcycling and collaboration, this process invites us to see potential where we might once have seen scraps.
