Family Art Day- Story Quilts: What Freedom Looks Like to Me

`

Ages: 5 to 100

Description

Workshop Description

Join us for a special Family Art Day in collaboration with the Ward 7 Juneteenth Parade Committee. Families and youth will explore the prompt “What Freedom Looks Like to Me” through a dynamic, mixed-media art-making process, creating personal and collective expressions of freedom, identity, and community.

Inspired by the tradition of story quilts, participants will create individual quilt squares using collage, drawing, and fabric-based materials—each piece telling a unique visual story of what freedom means to them. These individual works will also come together as part of a larger, collaborative artwork representing shared narratives and community voices.

Artwork created during the workshop will extend beyond the studio—selected pieces will be reproduced and featured on banners and signs along the Juneteenth parade route. Participants will also be invited to march in the Ward 7 Juneteenth Parade on June 19.

Come be part of a vibrant, community-wide celebration of creativity, culture, and collective expression.
