Ages: 5 to 7
Description
Course Description:
This class is a creative space for ages 5-7 to explore their imagination and connection to community. Through hands-on mixed media projects, kids will dive into the rich history of Anacostia, and create 2-D and 3-D masterpieces with confidence using a variety of art materials. This class is a chance for participants to grow, make friends, and shine creatively. Note: Participants will get to try out new projects that are different from the previous semesters.
Anacostia Creates Connection:
The class ties into the theme as students will be learning some foundational elements of art with a focus on clay and sculpture which supports their creative growth. Stories presented throughout each lesson will connect back to the anacostia community and the students relation to a lively historic environment.
Meet Your Teaching Artist: Manique is a visual artist and educator whose work is inspired by bold colors, patterns, nature, and geometric shapes. She loves exploring different mediums using each tool for experimentation and self-discovery. Her creative process emphasizes freedom, allowing brushstrokes and marks to flow naturally. Creating art is a pathway to self-healing, offering space to relax and lean into her creativity. With extensive experience teaching art in community settings throughout the DMV, she empowers people to explore their creative voices through her growing business - Creative Compass. She leads classes, workshops, mentorships, and community projects that celebrate the transformative power of art, encouraging authenticity, purpose, social-emotional awareness, and confidence.
