Description
Students will explore Anacostia’s rich history, culture, and creative legacy through sculpture. Inspired by the people, places, objects, and everyday experiences that shape our community, students will transform memories and ideas into clay artworks and sculpture. Through basic hand building techniques, students will create sculptures that celebrate neighborhood, identity, and belonging. The completed works will contribute to a collective celebration of Anacostia’s creative inheritance.
Anacostia Creates Connection: Students will use clay to create sculptures inspired by something that connects them to Anacostia, such as a person, place, memory, tradition, or neighborhood experience. Their individual sculptures will come together as a collective installation celebrating the stories, connections, and shared identity of the community.
