Description
Boys of Optimism Leadership Development (BOLD) Summer Academy is a fun and supportive program for 8th and 9th grade boys to get ready for high school and future careers. Through hands-on activities, cultural experiences, and mentorship, you’ll build confidence, grow as a leader, and learn how to stay focused and positive. BOLD helps youth stay on the right path and gives them the tools to create a strong, successful future.
The 6-week program runs from June 30 to August 8 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 12–4 PM. Mondays and Tuesdays will focus on interactive lessons, mentorship, and lunch. Thursdays are City Exploration Days (CED), where the group will go on exciting field trips connected to the week’s wellness theme—giving young men a chance to learn through real-world experiences, explore new places, and build leadership skills.
BOLD is a summer camp where young men connect with college mentors, build confidence, explore real-life topics, and get ready to lead in high school and beyond. BOLD Leaders are not only prepared for high school—they are equipped with the vision, determination, and optimism to uplift and inspire their communities.
This summer, we build leaders. This summer, we choose optimism.

Disclaimer:
- Submitting a registration form by the designated deadline does not guarantee enrollment into the B.O.L.D. Summer Academy. Enrollment is determined based on eligibility criteria—including grade level, residence or school enrollment in Long Beach—and on a first-come, first-served basis. Selected participants will be notified directly.
- By enrolling your child in the B.O.L.D. Summer Academy, you acknowledge that on Thursdays, drop-off and pick-up may be required at various field trip locations around Long Beach (e.g., CSULB, local parks, museums, etc.) between approximately 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Families are responsible for arranging transportation to and from these off-site locations unless otherwise communicated.
- All program dates, times, locations, and activities are subject to change. Project Optimism will provide timely updates and notifications to parents/guardians regarding any adjustments to the schedule.
