Description
Project Optimism Mentoring Sessions (POMS) is a program designed for 4th through 12th-grade students. Our program aims to improve social-emotional and behavioral skills, promote school connectedness, and improve academic performance.
POMS is designed to improve accessibility to positive role models by aligning students with college aged mentors who are reflective of their demographics for an entire academic school year. Participants will attend after school sessions that will focus on the 40 Developmental Assets (Search Institute, 2015), which outline internal and external assets that are essential to youth becoming well-rounded, well-adjusted human beings. Topics covered include: Positive Identity, Empowerment, Commitment to Learning, Goal Setting and more.
