Music Production Beat Maker's Essentials: Group B

Description

This is a 13 week, hands on course that covers the fundamentals of music production for middle school students through a beat maker's lens. This course also teaches proficiency in the digital audio workstation Ableton Live 12.

By the end of the course, students will be able to create hip hop and EDM beats in Ableton Live 12 of their creative choosing. They will create a 5-7 minute long beat tape as their final project. They will learn how to make beats while utilizing these concepts:

Active listening

Basic music theory (rhythm, melody, harmony, texture)

Proper ableton project creation, setup, and management

Multiple tracks: drums, bass, mids (e.g. guitar, piano, synth, sample, etc.)

At least two variations in arrangement

Basic mixing concepts such as level balancing, panning, blending, audio effects

EQ, compression, reverb, delay, etc

Very basic mastering techniques to get beats listener ready

Exporting the beat and uploading it to Soundcloud

Each class will include 30 minutes of lab time solely dedicated to actively making beats. There is no criteria for these beats, other than the students MUST start a brand new project at the beginning of the 30 minute Lab session.
