Description

The Larry Fitzgerald Foundation and Heart of Los Angeles are proud to present the introduction of basic video game design — brainstorming, level design, art, sound, and programming logic to students this Fall. Using beginner-friendly, block-based programming platforms, students learn core game design principles and build their own playable games. The class balances creativity and technical skills, the two key components of any design process.


Course Conclusion:

By the end of this class, students will be able to:

  • Explain game design concepts such as mechanics, dynamics, and aesthetics
  • Use beginner-friendly game programming tools to create real games
  • Understand basic programming logic through visual coding
  • Design levels and challenges, as well as art and sound, for a positive player experience
  • Playtest their peers' games and give and receive constructive feedback
  • Present their game ideas
