Description

Intro to Game Design with Scratch

Ready to build your own video games? This class introduces students to game design using Scratch, a beginner-friendly platform that makes coding visual and fun.

What students will learn:

Graphics

  • Draft, workshop, review, and revise an art piece throughout the semester
  • Understand that mistakes are part of the process—revision is common in creating a product they're proud of

Code

  • Use creativity to build a "brick and mortar" shop of self-made creative wares
  • Discover opportunities in creative expression and how to do more with fewer resources

Sound & Gameplay

  • How to design characters, levels, and interactive gameplay
  • Weekly hands-on projects inspired by popular games like Street Fighter and Pokémon

By the end of the course, students will have created a collection of original games and gained a solid foundation in coding logic, design thinking, and creativity.
