SoLa Foundation offers accessible educational programming for students in grades 3–12, as well as adult programming for individuals ages 18+. Our programs provide hands-on learning, career exploration, workforce development, and skill-building opportunities across technology, arts, entrepreneurship, and other growing industries.

Grades: 7th to 12th

Description

A hands-on documentary intensive that introduces students to nonfiction storytelling through short-form media production. Students explore documentary modes, story development, interviewing, production planning, filming, and editing—creating original projects rooted in community, family, memory, and local culture.


What students will learn:

  • Documentary modes and nonfiction storytelling techniques
  • Story development and production planning
  • Interviewing skills for authentic storytelling
  • Filming and shot composition
  • Video editing and post-production
  • Critique and revision as part of the creative process


This course is designed to help students strengthen their creative voice, build technical production skills, and develop professional readiness for future opportunities in media, documentary filmmaking, and unscripted content creation.
