Description

The Career in Medicine Series is a four-week, hands-on enrichment program designed to expose Mentees to real-world healthcare concepts and diverse career pathways within the medical field.


This INTERACTIVE and HANDS-ON series blends foundational medical knowledge with interactive learning, critical thinking, and career exploration to help students better understand how medicine works, not just in theory, but in practice.


Each week focuses on a specific body system or health topic that directly connects to everyday life, athletic activity, nutrition, and long-term wellness.

Program Structure and Weekly Focus

The program runs over six weeks, with one 90-minute session per week. Some topics include:

Musculoskeletal Health

Blood Pressure & Heart Health

Vascular Health & Diabetes



Session Format

Each session follows a consistent, Mentee-centered structure to encourage engagement and retention:

  1. Opening Case Presentation – A real-world injury or medical scenario is introduced.
  2. Student-Led Discussion – Students analyze the case, share ideas, and propose solutions.
  3. Professional Explanation – Facilitators explain how medical professionals diagnose and treat the condition, including tools, tests, and team roles.
  4. Interactive Activity – Hands-on or movement-based activities reinforce learning.
  5. Preventative Health Education – Discussion of healthy habits and lifestyle choices.
  6. Career Spotlight & Q&A – Overview of a specific medical profession, certification pathway, daily responsibilities, and open student questions


Program Goals and Outcomes

By the end of the series, students will:

  • Gain foundational knowledge of human health and medical decision-making
  • Learn about multiple medical careers beyond “doctor” or “nurse”
  • Build confidence asking questions and engaging with professionals
  • Develop early awareness of education, certification, and workforce pathways


The Career in Medicine Series is ideal for students interested in healthcare, science, athletics, or community service, while also being accessible to those simply curious about how the human body works.
