Camp YGI Week 2 (June 20 - 24)

10 students served 7 followers
`

Mon,Tue,Wed,Thu,Fri Ages: 8 to 13

Description

They will learn how food is grown, get their hands dirty with ecology lessons and hands-on farm tasks, and have some good old-fashioned outdoor fun.

Seedlings (Ages 9-11): Seedlings learn basic farm skills, harvest and processing, compost (what & why), and basic plant needs. They also focus on interpersonal skills development, cooking, and learning how food choices impact their lives. We use the Junior Master Gardener Curriculum to teach the youth to explore their community.

Project R.O.N.E. (Rooting Out Natural Entrepreneurs) (Ages 12-13): This program builds on our Seedlings program and then adds more. Upon completing this program, the youth will know how to develop and manage compost systems, have advanced harvest processing skills, name plant families, and understand trellising. Youth will also be able to assist/co-lead various farm stations during workdays, give farm tours, learn about food systems, and help to prep for distribution. Youth are also introduced to entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship is a critical component of our programs because we understand that not all young people want to be farmers, so the goal is to grow leaders, not farmers.
