Youth African Cultural Dance

Thanks for your interest in signing your child up for African cultural dance, storytelling, games, and songs, all FREE! 

 Participant Expectations 

1. Attendance 

Regular attendance is mandatory. Unless communicated otherwise, Sessions will be held once a week on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan University in Virginia Beach. 

Participants must attend at least 90% of scheduled sessions to remain in the program.* 

2. Performance Eligibility 

Participants who miss more than two unexcused consecutive sessions without a valid excuse will be ineligible to perform in upcoming events. 

Consistent attendance is required to build confidence and ensure cohesive group performances. 

3. Conduct 

Participants are expected to show respect to instructors, peers, and staff at all times. 

Any disruptive behavior may result in temporary suspension or removal from the program. 

 Parent/Guardian Responsibilities 

1. Commitment 

Ensure your child attends all scheduled sessions and arrives on time. 

Notify the program coordinator in advance if your child cannot attend a session due to illness or other unavoidable circumstances*. 

2. Support 

Encourage your child to practice and engage fully in the program. 

Stay informed about program updates, performance schedules, and other communications. 

3. Withdrawal 

Inform the program coordinator if you decide to withdraw your child from the program to allow their spot to be filled by another participant. 

*Please do not bring a sick child to the program. That absence will be excused with parental notification. 

Program Policies 

1. Suspension or Removal 

Participants with excessive absences or failure to meet conduct expectations may be suspended or removed from the program. 

Removal from the program will also result in disqualification from participating in future performances. 

2. Program Costs 

The Youth African Cultural Dance Program is free. However, parents/guardians may be asked to provide specific undergarments to accompany attire for performances (e.g., cultural costumes). 

3. Liability Waiver 

By e-signing this agreement, you release the Tidewater African Cultural Alliance and Virginia Wesleyan University from liability for any injury or harm sustained or loss that may occur during program activities. 

Photo and Video Release 

I grant the Tidewater African Cultural Alliance and Virginia Wesleyan University permission to photograph and/or video my child during program activities. I understand these images may be used for promotional purposes, including but not limited to flyers, social media, and website content. 

By e signing this form, I acknowledge that I have read and understood the terms outlined in this agreement. I commit to supporting my child’s participation and ensuring adherence to program expectations.
