After-School Learning Lab Volunteer

The True Life After-School Learning Lab is a free, small-group program serving 3rd and 4th grade students in the Lebanon City School District who need extra academic, emotional, and relational support after school.

Our goal is simple: to provide a safe, caring, and structured environment where children are known by name, encouraged, and supported as they grow in confidence, skills, and character.

What Volunteers Can Expect

Volunteers play a vital role in creating a welcoming and supportive after-school experience. Depending on interest and availability, volunteers may help with:

• Homework support and tutoring
• Reading Buddies (one-on-one or small-group reading time)
• Hands-on STEM activities and enrichment
• Sports, games, and recreation
• Snack and meal support
• Student check-in, dismissal, and clean-up

Volunteers serve alongside trained staff and other caring adults in a team-based environment. Some roles are weekly and relational, while others are short-term or rotating, making this a flexible opportunity for many schedules.

Time Commitment

The program runs Tuesday–Thursday from 3:30–6:00 PM during the school year.

Volunteers may serve:

• weekly
• bi-weekly
• or on a short-term / special-skills basis

We work to place volunteers in roles that fit their availability, experience, and comfort level.

Requirements & Safeguards

Because we serve children, all volunteers must complete the following before serving:

• Pennsylvania child safety clearances
• Background check
• Basic volunteer orientation and training

Volunteers assisting with transportation will be required to complete additional screening.
