In Partnership with Rainier Beach Pacific Islander's Club

Ala Mai – The Awakening
Ala Mai speaks to the cultural “awakening” of our people — a reminder to wake up to who you are, where you come from, and the power you carry as a Pacific Islander.
This program is all about you — your culture, your voice, and your future. At Ala Mai, you’ll get the chance to:
- Learn and celebrate Pacific Islander traditions through dance, music, and storytelling.
- Reconnect with cultural practices like language revitalization and traditional art that carry the wisdom of our ancestors.
- Build confidence in your identity and see how it connects to your everyday life, your education, and your future goals.
Being Pacific Islander in the diaspora can sometimes feel like you’re caught between two worlds. Ala Mai is here to remind you that your culture is your strength. When you know who you are, you can thrive — in school, at home, and in your community.
This year, we’ll also be preparing for the Lau Samoa competition, our school's multi-cultural showcase, and possibly hosting our very first official Luau where you can showcase your creativity, talent, and pride alongside other students. It’s not just about performing — it’s about showing up as your full self and being proud of your roots.
If you’re a student at Rainier Beach High School, Ala Mai is for you. Come join us, connect with other Pacific Islander youth, and be part of a community that lifts each other up. Together, we’ll awaken the MANA and brilliance that’s already inside you.
