Umoja=Unity
The Umoja debate league is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We are a youth debate team based in Detroit, MI. By using debate as our vehicle, we provide students with the opportunity for self expression, critical thinking skills, and conflict resolution skills.
Vision
Umoja Debate Team teaches youth the importance of unity while increasing literacy and their overall confidence in public speaking. We provide participants with the opportunity to articulate their thoughts and ideas to an audience. Aimed toward becoming better leaders and develop interpersonal skills within a team environment.
Mission
Our mission is to give students the opportunity to engage in competitive debate. Through the practice of debate, we hope to engage our participants in critical thinking skills, building confidence, community, and elevating the voices of the youth.
