To enrich the community, share thought provoking narratives, and create nurturing environments through the arts.
Cultivating an artistically conscious community, through innovative and accessible performances that celebrate humanity and the power of storytelling.
Brévo Theatre, a dynamic 501(c)(3) organization founded by Zaylin Yates and Terrence Pride at Florida A&M University, is dedicated to amplifying diverse voices in theatre. Known for captivating audiences with thought-provoking performances, Brévo has quickly become a driving force in South Florida’s artistic landscape. With productions that delve into pressing social issues and celebrate the richness of Black narratives, Brévo is more than a theatre company—it’s a movement.
The theatre has brought to life powerful works like Tarell Alvin McCraney’s The Brothers Size, in collaboration with Island City Stage, and closed their inaugural season in 2022 with Funnyhouse of a Negro by Adrienne Kennedy. Amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Brévo responded with Protest Art, a compelling virtual dance series highlighting racial injustice. The series included Hope For Tomorrow, commissioned by the prestigious Adrienne Arsht Center, illustrating Brévo’s innovative approach to storytelling and their dedication to impactful, accessible art.
In addition to these productions, Brévo has taken bold steps to spark important conversations. Their staging of American Son by Christopher Demos-Brown featured an engaging talkback titled 2 Shades of Black: An Exploration of Biracial Identity, with the playwright himself. This dedication to sparking dialogue and reflection is woven into every Brévo production.
Supported by generous sponsors like the Warten Foundation, Miami Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, The OurFund Foundation, The Miami Foundation, Broward Cultural Division, Community Foundation of Broward, and the Florida Department of State, Brévo Theatre continues to provide a vital platform for emerging playwrights, actors, dancers, and directors. Each season offers audiences a diverse, inclusive experience that challenges perceptions and champions the transformative power of the arts.
Whether you’re a theatre enthusiast, a supporter of the arts, or simply curious about the stories shaping today’s world, Brévo Theatre invites you to join in. Be part of an unforgettable journey that celebrates diversity, explores identity, and ignites conversation through exceptional storytelling and performances.
