About

Who We Are

Luke’s Leaders is a weekly, after-school leadership development initiative developed by the Outreach and Justice Department of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Our mission is to provide Washington Township students, ages 10 to 14, with transformative leadership development and community engagement opportunities.  Through a combination of hands-on experiences, mentorship, and partnerships with local youth-serving organizations, we aim to equip young people with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to create meaningful changes.

Our Mission and Core Values:

  • Empowerment: We believe in empowering youth to discover their unique strengths and abilities, enabling them to take ownership of their futures and make informed decisions.
  • Inclusivity: We embrace and celebrate diversity in all its forms, fostering an inclusive environment where all voices are heard and valued.
  • Collaboration: We recognize that collective action is the key to creating sustainable change. We actively promote collaboration among our participants, partners, and the broader community.

What We Do

Partnerships and Community Engagement: At Luke's Leaders, we understand the importance of collaboration and the power of partnerships. We have established strong relationships with local youth-serving organizations, including schools, community centers, and nonprofits. These partnerships enable us to offer a diverse range of leadership development and community engagement opportunities.

Our partners for 2024-2025 are : Peace Learning CenterYMCA of Greater Indianapolis, the Center for Leadership Development, and MSD Washington Township

Through our network of partners, Luke's Leaders participants have access to workshops, seminars, and experiential learning activities. From team-building exercises to public speaking training, these programs are designed to enhance their leadership skills, foster critical thinking, and nurture a sense of civic responsibility.

Benefits and Participation: Luke's Leaders is open to all Washington Township students, grades 6th through 8th, regardless of their background or previous leadership experience. We firmly believe that leadership potential exists in every young person, and we are committed to providing equal opportunities for all.

The Role of St. Luke's United Methodist Church: Luke's Leaders is proud to be supported by St. Luke's United Methodist Church, a pillar of the Indianapolis community for over a century. The church serves as the program's hub, providing a safe and welcoming space for meetings, workshops, and events.
