Ages: 6 to 8
Description
Our Bots Builders is an early-elementary robotics program designed to introduce students ages 6–8 to engineering, coding, and problem-solving through hands-on building and guided exploration. Using age-appropriate robotics systems such as Sphero Indi (and similar platforms), students learn by designing, building, testing, and improving simple robots in a supportive, structured environment.
The program emphasizes curiosity, teamwork, and persistence. Lessons are project-based and aligned with developmental learning needs, allowing students to explore STEM concepts through play, storytelling, and real-world challenges. Each session builds confidence while reinforcing foundational skills needed for future success in science and technology.
Bots Builders is especially focused on helping young learners see themselves as creators, not just users, of technology.
What Students Will Learn:
Robotics & Engineering Foundations
- Identify basic robot parts such as motors, sensors, and wheels
- Build simple robotic models using structured and free-build challenges
- Understand how parts work together to make a robot move and respond
Early Coding Skills
- Use visual, block-based coding to control robot movement
- Create simple programs with sequences, loops, and cause-and-effect actions
- Debug programs by testing, fixing, and trying again
Problem-Solving & Critical Thinking
- Follow step-by-step build instructions
- Predict outcomes and test ideas
- Improve designs based on what works and what doesn’t
Math & Science Connections
- Practice counting, measuring distance, and recognizing patterns
- Explore motion, speed, direction, and force through hands-on activities
- Make observations and explain results in age-appropriate ways
Collaboration & Communication
- Work in small teams to complete build challenges
- Take turns, share ideas, and listen to others
- Explain how their robot works using clear language
Confidence & Creativity
- Develop persistence through trial and error
- Use imagination to design robots for stories, games, and real-world tasks
- Build pride in completing projects independently and as a team
