Description

Junior Robotics Program (Ages 9–12)

MYTT Junior Robotics Program is designed for students ages 9–12 who are ready to move beyond introductory robotics and begin applying engineering and coding skills to more complex challenges. Using VEX IQ and comparable robotics platforms, students design, build, and program functional robots that solve structured, real-world problems.

This program is hands-on and project-driven. Students work individually and in teams to plan builds, test ideas, analyze results, and refine their designs. Emphasis is placed on understanding how mechanical systems, sensors, and code work together. Through guided instruction and open-ended challenges, students strengthen technical skills while developing responsibility, collaboration, and perseverance.

The Junior Robotics Program prepares students for middle school and competitive robotics pathways while reinforcing academic and career-ready STEM skills.

What Students Will Learn:

Robotics & Mechanical Design

  • Build robots using gears, motors, drivetrains, and structural components
  • Understand gear ratios, torque, speed, and stability
  • Design and modify robots to complete specific tasks

Programming & Computational Thinking

  • Program robots using block-based coding and introductory text-based concepts
  • Use variables, conditionals, loops, and event-based logic
  • Integrate sensors to control movement and decision-making

Engineering Design Process

  • Define problems and plan solutions
  • Test prototypes and evaluate performance
  • Improve designs based on data and feedback

Applied Math & Science

  • Apply measurement, ratios, and angles in robot construction
  • Explore forces, motion, energy, and simple machines
  • Use data from sensors to make adjustments and predictions

Teamwork & Leadership

  • Collaborate in small teams with defined roles
  • Communicate ideas clearly during planning and testing
  • Practice leadership, accountability, and respectful problem-solving

Digital Literacy & Responsibility

  • Understand how technology impacts everyday life
  • Follow safety and equipment-use guidelines
  • Develop responsible habits when working with tools and technology
