About ProjectArt

Ever wanted your child to learn from a local artist? Enroll in ProjectArt today!

ProjectArt’s free after-school art classes run from late September through May in Queens Public Library branches across the city. All materials are provided.

Our Teachers

Resident Teaching Artists lead 2–3 classes per branch while also creating new artwork throughout the year. Their practice is often inspired by their students and their experience in the community. As part of their residency, these vetted artists are trained to blend their expertise with youth development, integrating art history, literacy, and social-emotional learning into every project.

Our Students

Being a ProjectArt student is not about being “good” or “bad” at art. It’s about gaining foundational skills to express yourself, explore creativity, and collaborate with peers. Students are grouped by age (4–7, 8–12, and 13–18). We encourage families to commit for several weeks to fully experience our approach.

If students are absent for a significant period of time without communication, they may be dropped to allow waitlisted students in.

Our Projects

Projects run 3–6 weeks and are built around open-ended visual art themes. Each artist-teacher interprets the theme differently, ensuring every class is unique. Projects may result in a series of explorations or a single developed masterpiece. Our curriculum aligns with National Arts Education Association standards and emphasizes creative confidence and social-emotional growth.

Exhibition Opportunity

Students who stay enrolled through mid-April are invited to showcase their artwork alongside their teaching artist in a professional year-end exhibition.
