Description
STAIR provides free, one-on-one reading tutoring for 1st through 3rd grade students who would benefit from extra support and encouragement in reading.
Each student is paired with a trained STAIR tutor who works with them on reading skills such as phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Tutoring also gives students a supportive space to practice, build confidence, and develop a stronger relationship with reading.
Students meet with their tutor twice a week after school. STAIR tutoring runs from September through April and follows your child’s school calendar, including school holidays and breaks.
STAIR provides the curriculum, books, and other materials needed for tutoring, and STAIR staff are present at each tutoring site to support students and volunteers. Throughout the year, students also receive about 12 brand-new books to take home and keep, helping them build their own home library and continue reading outside of tutoring.
Families do not have to pay to participate in STAIR.
