Grades: 1st to 4th
Description
The Beyond the Bell @ Parkridge: Tutoring Program provides individualized academic support and educational planning designed to help students strengthen their academic skills, overcome learning barriers, develop essential life skills, and build confidence in their educational journey. The program emphasizes a holistic approach to student success by addressing academic achievement, social-emotional well-being, personal development, and future goals.
Students will be organized into two grade-level groups (grades 1-4 and 5-9) to ensure that tutoring, assessments, and educational planning are developmentally appropriate and responsive to individual needs.
**Limited tutoring slots are available. ** All students must be registered to participate.
Grades 1–4 | Early Learning & Foundational Development
Students in grades 1–4 will participate in initial assessments and individualized educational planning focused on:
- Early Learning: Reading, writing, mathematics, foundational academic skills, and learning readiness.
- Academic and Behavioral Indicators: Identifying academic strengths, areas requiring additional support, learning habits, classroom behaviors, and potential barriers to success.
- Developmental Skills: Building communication, problem-solving, organization, and age-appropriate independence.
- Life Skills: Developing positive routines, self-regulation, social interaction, responsibility, and healthy decision-making.
The goal is to establish a strong academic foundation while identifying the support and strategies each student needs to thrive in school and beyond.
Grades 5–9 | Academic Growth & Future Readiness
Students in grades 5–9 will participate in assessments and individualized educational planning focused on:
- Learning Barriers: Identifying academic challenges, gaps in foundational knowledge, study habits, and other factors that may affect academic performance.
- Academic Success: Strengthening subject-area skills, homework completion, organization, time management, and independent learning.
- Life Skills: Developing communication, self-advocacy, decision-making, problem-solving, and personal responsibility.
- Future Planning: Establishing educational goals, exploring interests, building high school readiness, and introducing college, career, and workforce pathways.
The goal is to help students recognize their strengths, address learning challenges, take greater ownership of their education, and develop a plan for continued academic and personal growth.
Homework & Individualized Learning Plans
All students will be encouraged to bring school assignments, homework, upcoming projects, and study materials to each tutoring session. Students may also be encouraged to communicate with their teachers about opportunities for additional practice or extra-credit assignments, when available and appropriate.
When students do not have homework, tutors will use an educational plan to guide instruction and provide appropriate supplemental activities. These activities may include reading practice, mathematics exercises, writing assignments, skill-building activities, and other learning experiences aligned with the student's identified needs and goals.
Our Commitment to Student Success
Beyond the Bell @ Parkridge recognizes that every student learns differently and may need different levels of support to succeed. Through individualized educational planning, consistent academic assistance, social-emotional check-ins, and intentional life-skills development, the program seeks to help students strengthen their skills, build confidence, and become active participants in their own learning.
Our goal is simple: to ensure every student has the support, skills, and encouragement needed to learn, grow, and thrive—Beyond the Bell.
