After serving within public schools around the state of Indiana for over six years, Brendon L. Garrett noticed more and more children in the city of Indianapolis, Indiana struggling in academics because they lived in poverty. Discussing this with multiple families from the various schools he served, he also found that a large number of them could not afford or did not have vehicles to visit youth community facilities. Brendon saw this as a big problem that he wanted to solve. He partnered with friends, local educators, business owners, churches, and parents of students to discuss and build a solution to the problem.
The Youth Empowerment Centers of America was incorporated Fall of 2020 to make youth services more accessible to all Indianapolis families. The Youth Empowerment Centers of America Incorporated is now a 501(c)(3) where young people are empowered to live good lives and to build legacies they are proud of through arts, positive socialization, and literacy.
We provide programs and services that allow youth to have fun while learning and serving their community in a place where their safety is ensured.
It is our top obligation to ensure that the young people we serve gain the tools and positive support needed for them to stay focused on their success in academics, health, and life. To help our youth stay focused on these successes, we meet regularly, assist them in planning fun team-service projects in their community, and we enthusiastically applaud their positivity, confident they will recognize that being a positive individual is very good and leads to a life full of celebrations. We are now making a positive impact in Marion County, serving more than 30 young people each day and over 100 young people weekly through our Virtual Impact Program and Local Missions Projects. Our services are limited to youth because of the preponderance of at-risk youth in our community. Once our program proves to be successful across Indianapolis, we would, of course, love to expand our programs to other cities and states across the United States of America.
