About
The Al Wooten Jr. Youth Center is a nonprofit organization founded in 1990 by Myrtle Faye Rumph in honor of her son, killed in a drive-by shooting. We provide tuition-free hybrid afterschool and summer programs for students in grades 3-12 in the South Los Angeles area with a mission to provide a safe and nurturing environment committed to good citizenship and academic excellence. Activities include homework assistance and tutoring, STEM and music classes, performing and visual arts, leadership and life skills development, teen internships and discussion groups, college and career advisement, parent workshops, and other youth and family services.
